It's official, Dakota Johnson has been announced to star in the lead female role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey" at Universal Pictures and Focus Features.
Based on the novel by E.L. James, the sexually-explicit story follows 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and 22-year-old virgin college student Anastasia Steele (Johnson), who develop a relationship steeped in bondage, S&M, domination and submission
Johnson has had small roles in "The Social Network," "The Five-Year Engagement" and "21 Jump Street," and was a lead in the Fox sitcom "Ben and Kate".
Sam Taylor-Johnson directs the project which James, Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are producing. James announced the news via her Twitter account.
