Trade Breaks: Emporium, Pulse, Network

"Dustin Hoffman is set to star opposite Natalie Portman in Mandate Pictures' "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium," a fantasy directed by Zach Helm. Mandate will fully finance "Mr. Magorium" and holds worldwide rights. Helm, who also penned the screenplay, will begin shooting in March. In "Margorium," Hoffman plays an eccentric toy shop owner who wants to lift Portman out of her depression by leaving her the store. Pic marks Hoffman's second project for Mandate, which is in production on the Will Ferrell/Hoffman starrer "Stranger Than Fiction," written by Helm..." (full details)

Jonathan Tucker, Corryn Cummins, Joseph Gatt, Rick Gonzalez (War of the Worlds), Samm Levine (Schweiber from 'Freaks and Geeks'), Riki Lindhome (Million Dollar Baby), Christina Milian (Be Cool) and Amanda Tepe have joined the cast of Wes Craven produced "Pulse", a remake of the classic Japanese horror film Kairo . After one of their friends commits suicide, strange things begin happening to a group of young Tokyo residents. One of them sees visions of his dead friend in the shadows on the wall, while another's computer keeps showing strange, ghostly images. "In one of the quirkiest TV series remake deals, Paramount Pictures has secured rights to "Battle of the Network Stars" and will use it as the catalyst for a star-studded comedy. Etan Cohen is writing the script, and Jimmy Miller will produce through Mosaic. Pic will revolve around a disgraced network exec who must claw his way back to respectability by winning the contest.
