Vin Diesel has begun doing "Riddick" press rounds and has finally gone into details about his role as Groot in the upcoming Marvel film "Guardians of the Galaxy".
Diesel says his original meetings with Marvel weren't over 'Guardians', rather another intellectual property that hadn't hit the screen yet. Diesel says:
"That was the focus of our conversation — a fresh IP that would come out in 2016 or 2017, and potentially launch the third phase."
However, his appearance at Comic Con this year lead him to realise he wanted to do something sooner. However, "with my schedule, it was almost impossible to imagine I could do anything immediate."
As a result, the idea of the walking and talking tree Groot came up:
"I take my hat off to them for being so creative and thinking outside of the box… I guess after they watched Iron Giant, or whatever, they came up with this idea of taking the strangest Marvel character -- or the strangest Marvel character that's ever hit film -- and thought what I could do with that with motion capture and with my voice. Now it's just up to my reps to allow that to happen."
The quote confirms that Diesel will not only be providing the voice but motion capture elements as well for the role.
