It's official, Ben Affleck will play Bruce Wayne/Batman opposite Henry Cavill's Clark Kent/Superman in Zack Snyder's still untitled "Batman vs. Superman" film at Warner Bros. Pictures. The studio made the announcement a few hours ago,
Greg Silverman, Warner Bros.' president of creative development and worldwide production, says: "We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular superheroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent, and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character."
Snyder adds: "Ben provides an interesting counterbalance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."
This sequel to this year's "Man of Steel" was announced at Comic-Con last month, prompting much speculation surrounding who would play the Dark Knight. To the credit of the studio, Affleck's name was never really a part of the rumored mix despite his high profile.
Warners has slated the film for release on July 17th 2015.
