Universal Pictures is in negotiations to pick up the film adaptation of Scholastic's ten-book adventure series "39 Clues" out of turnaround from DreamWorks.
The story follows two siblings, who just discovered their heritage, and are thrust into a race with their more devious relatives to uncover 39 clues in order to find ultimate power.
DreamWorks picked up the rights in 2008 where it was seen as a potential directorial vehicle for Steven Spielberg and then later Shawn Levy.
Jeff Nathanson ("Catch Me If You Can") penned the previous script, and it's unknown if Universal's deal will include it.
Deborah Forte is attached to produce.
