Larry Charles ("Borat," "The Dictator") has signed on to direct and Josh Gad is set to star in the long-in-the-works biopic about late comedian Sam Kinison.
The film will deal with Kinison in the 1980s as he transitioned from his family business of Pentecostal preaching to become a famed and manic stand up comedian in Hollywood. He had many appearances on Howard Stern's radio show, along with a memorable cameo in classic comedy "Back To School".
He soon fell into drink and drugs for several years, but was soon able to clean up his act and conquer his demons. Sadly, just as he begun his new life of sobriety, the 38-year-old was killed in a head-on collision with a drunken driver.
Key characters in the film will include the likes of Howard Stern, Richard Pryor, and Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. Rich Wilkes ("xXx") penned the script while David Permut will produce.
