Steven Spielberg has dropped out of his commitment to direct the "American Sniper" project. His DreamWorks company has also pulled out of the project.
Spielberg announced in May that he would next be helming the project about decorated Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (to be played by Bradley Cooper). Jason Hall penned the script.
This follows on from Spielberg's "Robopocalypse" adaptation which he also pulled out of a while back. Unlike with 'Sniper' though, Spielberg still intends to direct "Robopocalypse" after further development.
With 'Sniper,' Spielberg couldn't square his vision of this movie with the budget. Warners is now free to secure another filmmaker to keep the project together. Cooper remains attached to star and produce.
