Billy Bob Thornton is set to play the lead role of Lorne Malvo in FX's TV series adaptation of the Coen brothers 1996 film "Fargo".
The ten-episode limited series follows an "all-new true crime story" with a new case and characters, but will keep the dark humor, tone and setting of the original.
Thornton's character, inspired by Steve Buscemi's role in the original film, is a rootless, manipulative man who meets a small-town insurance salesman and sets him on a path of destruction.
Noah Hawley penned the script and will executive produce alongside Joel and Ethan Coen. Emmy winner Adam Bernstein ("30 Rock") will direct the pilot which begins production this Fall ahead of a Spring 2014 premiere.
