It seems that fate has been kind to Guillermo del Toro.
The disappointing domestic box-office take for his big-budget action epic "Pacific Rim" meant that any chance of a sequel rested in the hands of the global marketplace where the film has done significantly better so far.
However, the big market where everything counts is China. The film finally opened there the other day and many were wondering how it would fare.
Turns out extremely well. The film scored $9 million on Wednesday alone, an opening day haul 23% higher than any "Harry Potter" film so far.
It looks good enough that Warners is said to be seriously considering a sequel at the moment.
