"Casino Royale," "Goldeneye" and "The Mask of Zorro" director Martin Campbell is in talks to helm the Navy SEAL drama "Alpha" for Paramount and Parkes/MacDonald.

Scott Frank penned the most recent draft of the script which follows a Navy Seal sent to South America to train dogs for combat service. When his handler is captured, the Seal and the dogs set out to save him.

Meanwhile, David Fincher's longtime and Oscar-winning editor Angus Wall ("The Social Network," "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo") is set to direct the thriller "Empire" for New Regency.

Story details are being kept under wraps, but the story is said to be a mix of "Safe House" and "The Usual Suspects". Ben Ripley ("Source Code") penned the script, while Mark Gordon is attached to produce.
