Thandie Newton ("Crash", "M:I-2") has been cast opposite Will Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness" for Columbia Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
Written by Steve Conrad ("The Weather Man"), the drama centers on Chris Gardner (Smith), a marginally employed salesman who gains custody of his young son just as he is about to begin a stock brokerage internship program. While in the program, he and his son must live in a homeless shelter and endure many hardships as they pursue their dream of success.
Newton will play Linda, Smith's estranged wife and the mother of his son. Filming is scheduled to begin shortly, with a release planned for next year.
