More a social media phenomenon than a ratings one, talk has understandably flown fast today over Syfy's gimmicky fun "Sharknado" telemovie and whether it might get a sequel.
1.37 million viewers tuned in for the broadcast on Thursday night, that's slightly up on other original Syfy features. More impressively though, the film scored 387,000 mentions across all social platforms on Thursday evening and Friday.
Actors Ian Ziering and Tara Reid have both said they'd be up for a sequel, and Deadline reported yesterday afternoon that the network was considering it.
However, a Syfy rep tells The Inquisitr today that reported discussions for a sequel are unconfirmed. A sequel might happen, it's just not being discussed yet.
Due to the popularity of the telemovie, Syfy has announced that an encore broadcast will air next Thursday (July 18th) at 7/6c.
