Johnny Depp is in negotiations to star in David Koepp's "Mortdecai" at Lionsgate.

Eric Aronson is penning this adaptation of Kyril Bonfiglioli's 1970s book series "The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery" in which Depp will play a debonair art dealer and part-time rogue.

The character traverses the globe in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Angry Russians, British spies, an international terrorist and his wife are also thrown in the mix.

Depp, Christi Dembrowski and Andrew Lazar will produce. The project was previously based at Warners.
