Producers Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell ("Texas Chainsaw 3D") has picked up the remake rights to George A. Romero's 1985 zombie classic "Day of the Dead."
The pair scored the rights from Taurus Entertainment who produced the direct-to-video 2008 remake starring Mena Suvari and Nick Cannon. Millennium Films will co-produce the remake.
Meetings are currently underway with screenwriters about the best way to adapt the 1985 original into a $10-20 million budgeted project that could be ready in time for a theatrical release in 2014.
Campbell says they are trying to keep it as close to the Romero version as possible. That film followed a group of military personnel and scientists hiding from the undead in a bunker.
