Last year, just days after the film had opened, Disney Pictures announced they were essentially writing off $200 million due to the failure of "John Carter".
Now, box office experts and rival studio insiders are predicting a loss of around $150 million for the studio based on final opening numbers for "The Lone Ranger".
Ranger's production budget clocked in at $250 million, while the worldwide marketing cost is said to be $175 million.
Right now, the film is expected to earn $125 million domestically, and another $150 million globally.
The loss won't be as bad as 'Carter' due to a better domestic box-office performance, and the strong performances of "Iron Man 3" and "Monsters University" mitigating the damage.
Disney executive vp worldwide distribution Dave Hollis says: "It's very disappointing. Everything was perfect on paper, so today was incredibly frustrating."
