MGM and Fox 2000 are teaming to co-finance and distribute the remake of the 1982 horror classic "Poltergeist".
The project is being called a revisionist take on the original, and centers on a family struggling to make ends meet that relocates to an outdated suburban home. There, they are confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter.
Gil Kenan ("Monster House") is set to direct from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Lindsay-Abaire ("Oz: The Great and Powerful"). Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Roy Lee are set to produce with shooting to begin this Fall.
