British trade paper The Daily Mail says that actress Penelope Cruz is "close to signing" for the lead female role in the next 007 film.
If true, Cruz would not only be one of the highest profile actresses to play a Bond Girl, but also one of the oldest at 40.
The paper's source claims: "The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now."
It would also be an interesting choice, coming off "Skyfall" which starred her husband Javier Bardem as the villain. "Skyfall" was also penned with Bardem in mind for the role quite early in the process, could a similar situation have happened here?
