J.J. Abrams follows up his widely acclaimed 2009 reboot of the "Star Trek" film franchise with "Star Trek Into Darkness" which opened last week in select international markets and in U.S. cinemas last night.
While critical reaction to the first film was stellar, this sequel has met a more muted response albeit still mostly positive. There's certainly more of a division of reaction to the film than there was with the reboot, especially amongst old school Trekkies.
I myself lightly enjoyed the film but with some serious reservations, and honestly haven't had any desire to re-watch it (and I'm more a "Star Trek" fan than I am a "Star Wars" or comic book fan).
Opening to softer than expected $13.5 million on Thursday in the United States, the film is currently looking to score a domestic opening weekend haul around the $79.2 million opening of the 2009 reboot.
