Natalie Portman is set to play Lady Macbeth opposite Michael Fassbender in the title role of the upcoming film adaptation of the classic Shakespeare play for See-Saw and Film4.
Portman and Fassbender recently worked together on Terrence Malick's latest feature, and the actress has reportedly long wanted to take on the role.
This "visceral" version contains major battle scenes, is set in the 11th century, and will be performed in "the original language".
The property has been adapted for the screen numerous times. Fassbender's "X-Men" cohort James McAvoy scored an Olivier Award nomination for his recent West End turn in the role, a role he played on screen before in at contemporary set 2005 TV version.
Justin Kurzel ("Snowtown") helms this update from a script adaptation by Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff. The project is due to film later this year.
