The biggest news out of Disney's CinemaCon panel in Las Vegas earlier today was essentially a confirmation of something we already pretty much knew - they intend to turn the "Star Wars" Universe into the next Marvel Universe in terms of film output.
Disney CEO Alan Horn confirmed that "Star Wars: Episode VII" will hit theaters in the summer of 2015. After that, the studio will release a new "Star Wars" film each and every summer for the foreseeable future.
They will do this by alternating between the major "Star Wars" 'episode' movies one year, and various spin-offs focusing on single characters and other areas of the "Star Wars" universe the next.
Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are reportedly penning the first two spin-off films which will hit in 2016 and 2018, between Episodes VII through IX.
