Whedon Talks "Avengers 2," "S.H.I.E.L.D."

Talking with ET Online, filmmaker Joss Whedon says he had an idea in his head for "The Avengers" sequel before he even started work on the first film.

"I didn't think I was going to do the second one, but I had an idea for it, before I figured out the first one. I've seen plenty of movies that are the first part of a trilogy that never happened, and it's terrible. You don't save anything for the trip back. Having said that, though, I did sort of know, if they were going to come back, I know what's going to happen.

Whedon adds that he's consulting with Marvel's Kevin Feige regularly, and has the inside track on all the upcoming Marvel Phase Two movies.

I'm really excited. I've gotten to see everything. I've been behind the curtain on all this stuff, and (producer) Kevin Feige has a really clear vision, and it runs through all these movies. They really are what the next story should be. I'm actually consulting for Marvel in general, and some of that is protecting myself, but most of it is trying to make sure everything is as good as it can be.

The script is said to be done, though re-writes and tweaking will occur for many months. Filming is confirmed to begin in February next year ahead of the film's May 2015 release. Meanwhile, in an interview with Total Film, Whedon was asked about how the upcoming ABC series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." fits into the greater Marvel movie mythology:

"The S.H.I.E.L.D. show fits into the mythology of The Avengers remarkably well and they both complement each other. So it just seemed like a no-brainer – although it has required a lot of my brain to get it right. We have just finished shooting [the pilot episode] and I am excited. I think Marvel fans will appreciate what we have done."
