After helming the third through sixth entries, director Justin Lin is departing Universal's "Fast and Furious" franchise ahead of the soon to film seventh.
The director informed the studio on late Wednesday that he will not be returning for the seventh film.
Lin's exit is said to be due to timing as Universal has put the film on an aggressively accelerated timetable to have it ready for summer 2014.
The studio is now searching for another director, with a decision expected as early as next week. Lin's last film in the franchise, "Fast & Furious 6," opens May 24th.
