J.K. Simmons ("Spider-Man," "The Closer") and comedian Chris Elliott have joined the cast of Marc Lawrence's untitled indie rom-com at Castle Rock Entertainment.
The story follows an Oscar-winning screenwriter (Grant) who is now creatively washed up, divorced and broke. With no other options, he takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college on the East Coast.
He soon finds romance with a single mom (Tomei) who's gone back to school. Elliott will portray Jim, a Shakespeare professor and next-door neighbor to Grant's character.
Simmons will play Dr. Lerner, chairman of the university's English department. He's also a family man who takes Michaels under his wing.
Hugh Grant, Marisa Tomei, Bella Heathcote and Allison Janney also star. Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer are producing, with shooting kicking off in April in New York.
