Fourth Season Of "Sherlock" Confirmed

Filming on the third series of the BBC's "Sherlock" commences on Monday, and today star Benedict Cumberbatch told The Radio Times that at least one more is in the works.

"We've agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that. All I know at the moment is I'm doing these three [episodes for Series 3] and another three [episodes for Series 4]."

Cumberbatch adds that he's keen on keeping the series going on for some time yet, it all depends upon scheduling.

"It just depends on Martin [Freeman] and I's availability, how long we can keep it going. It depends on Steven [Moffat]'s ability. I'd love to keep it going."

Jeremy Lovering and Colm McCarthy are directing the first two episodes of the new series. Production will then take a break as both the show's stars head to New Zealand for filming on "The Hobbit: There And Back Again".

The duo will then return to shoot the third episode which hasn't yet settled on a director. Right now a UK air date is looking likely to be either very late 2013 or very early 2014.
