With "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn recently confirmed as being out of the project, Sony Pictures seems to have already found a replacement for their upcoming cinematic reboot of the 1980s TV series "The Equalizer".

Rupert Wyatt, the director of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," is in early discussions to direct the Denzel Washington-led action thriller.

Edward Woodward starred in the classic CBS television series about Robert McCall, a former operative of a covert intelligence organisation who seeks redemption for his dark past via offering his services to those being persecuted and in need of help.

The film keeps the basic premise, but then goes off on its own tangent with Washington attached to play a retired intelligence officer living a quiet life. One of his acts of kindness gets him embroiled with the Russian mob.
