Ralph Fiennes and Mads Mikkelsen are in advanced negotiations to join the $35 million adaptation of the John le Carre spy thriller "Our Kind of Traitor" at StudioCanal.
Ewan McGregor stars as half of a couple who gets mixed up with a Russian oligarch and major money launderer (Mikkelsen).
Caught up in his plans to defect, they are soon positioned between the Russian Mafia and the British Secret Service.
Fiennes would play UK government fixer Hector Meredith. The female lead role has yet to be cast.
Justin Kurzel ("Snowtown") helms the project from a script by Hossein Amini ("Drive"). Shooting aims to begin this Summer in Moscow, Marrakech, Paris, London and Switzerland for a release in 2014.
At the same time, StudioCanal is still developing "Smiley's People," the sequel to 2011's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy". The same team behind the first film are back, and the hope is to begin filming in 2014 (which would mean a 2015 release).
