Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace are in negotiations to join the Soviet-era thriller "Child 44" at Scott Free.

Set during the 1950s, the story follows a member of the Soviet police (Hardy) who, while investigating a series of child murders, finds himself the target of his own government’s suspicions.

Rapace would play his wife, who pretends to be a doting partner but is concealing many thoughts and feelings.

Richard Price penned the script based on the Tom Rob Smith novel. Daniel Espinosa ("Safe House," "Easy Money") is directing while Ridley Scott and Michael Costigan will produce.

Both Hardy and Rapace will work together on Fox Searchlight’s drama "Animal Rescue" in March, before segueing to "Child 44" which begins shooting in late May in Budapest.
