Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to re-team with his "The Master" director Paul Thomas Anderson on an adaptation of 2009's Thomas Pynchon novel "Inherent Vice" at Annapurna Pictures.
Set in the 1960s, the story centers around an often stoned private detective in Los Angeles who investigates the kidnapping plot of his ex-wife's new land developer husband.
From there, things get weird as motives and passions become confused amidst a range of characters including a lethal loan shark, an Ethel Merman-loving neo-Nazi ex-con, and the mysterious 'Golden Fang'.
Anderson penned the screenplay while Anderson, Megan Ellison, John Lesher and JoAnne Sellar will produce. Robert Downey Jr. was previously linked to the lead role.
