Guillermo del Toro has unveiled the first trailer for his giant robots vs. giant monsters epic "Pacific Rim". The scale is enormous, the visuals pretty spectacular, and an impressive cast of actors can be seen including Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi.
Much like "Prometheus" seemed like a spin on Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness", this bears a resemblance to much beloved anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion" minus all the teen themes and religious subtext. It's a more straightforward tale from the looks of it, the real impressiveness is the sheer scope on offer.
Unlike say "Transformers", these robots and creatures obey the laws of physics - there's obvious mass, inertia and momentum to these creations which adds a hell of a lot more credibility to the visual effects. A cute touch as well to incorporate what sounds like the voice of the computer in the "Portal" games.
