Annapurna Pictures, Denver & Delilah Films and CJ Entertainment are teaming to produce an American remake of Park Chan-wook's "Sympathy For Lady Vengeance" which Annapurna will finance.
The story follows a woman who, for reasons of her own, completes a prison term for a murder she did not commit. She re-emerges to punish the killer and avenge the dead.
Charlize Theron is set to star as well as produce the film along with Beth Kono, Megan Ellison, Chelsea Barnard, Ted Kim and William Monahan. "Kingdom of Heaven" and "The Departed" scribe Monahan is adapting the script.
The original is the third in Park's 'Vengeance' trilogy following "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" and the highly acclaimed "Oldboy", the latter of which Spike Lee is currently filming a remake of.
