"Iron Man 3," "Justice League" Updates

It has been a busy 48 hours on the superhero talk front, but it's all just little bits of information rather than earth-shattering announcements.

--- "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES" SPOILERS BEGIN---

First up, Hitfix says that according to their sources, Joseph Gordon-Levitt absolutely will be appearing in the upcoming "Justice League" movie as the new Batman.

This has been speculated about in the wake of the ending of "The Dark Knight Rises." What's most interesting about this report isn't just that JGL could appear in the role for 'League', it's that he might grace our screens in that role a wee bit earlier than expected.

"They're a long way from filming anything 'Justice League' related, but they appear to be solidifying deals for Gordon-Levitt and, potentially, at least one other actor from the Nolan films to do… something" says HitFix's Drew McWeeny. He goes on to speculate this could be a cameo at the end of "Man of Steel."

The upside of such a casting move is that 'Rises' then pretty much serves as the origin movie of the League-incarnation of Batman - getting all that backstory out of the way.

UPDATE: JGL's reps have "refuted the rumor entirely" according to Hollywood.com.

--- "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES" SPOILERS END ---

Meanwhile over in the Marvel Universe, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says that the upcoming "Iron Man 3" deliberately dials back on links to "The Avengers" which the first sequel played up.

"'Iron Man 3' doesn’t feature any of the other Avengers, or Nick Fury showing up, or any of those world-blending conceits that the Phase One films had… We’re sticking to the vision for these films, and showing once again that these characters are just as interesting alone as they are together."

Feige also explained the Iron Patriot armor we’ve seen which belongs to Don Cheadle's Lt. Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes.

"The notion in the movie is that a red, white and blue suit is a bold statement, and it’s meant to be. With Rhodey, he’s very much the foil to Tony’s eccentricities, and in this one you get to see this and be reminded of the trust and friendship between them in that great Shane Black buddy-cop fashion."
