"Frankenweenie" scribe John August is in talks to pen an adaptation of R.J. Palacio's bestselling bullying-themed novel "Wonder" for Lionsgate and Mandeville Films.
The story follows a 10-year-old boy named Auggie whose facial deformity prevents him from attending a mainstream school.
Starting fifth grade at a new school, he struggles to convince his new classmates that, despite appearances, he's just like them. The story examines bullying from different points of view.
Lionsgate is in final negotiations to acquire the rights to the work, which is Palacio's debut novel. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing.
