Ioan's Hornblower Scares Kiddies

If there's one thing that never fails to come out of interviews for superhero movies, its actors bragging about their 'prominence' in skin-tight rubber or lycra. From the time Chris O'Donnell's 'third leg' codpiece burst out on the screen back in 1995, the race has been on to show off sex appeal without skin and for the time being the "Spider-Man" franchise has won with its consistently water-soaked but excited Kirsten Dunst or Tobey Maguire flexing his there today, gone tomorrow abs.

Now, the filmmakers of "Fantastic Four" have had to pull back on the idea for their flick. Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd (Tv's "Horatio Hornblower") has joined his fellow UK stars like Colin Farrell or Ralph Fiennes as another example of an actor who's hidden talent has gotten the chop. Contact Music reports that filmmakers had to shrink his genitals for the new "Fantastic Four" movie - so he wouldn't alarm young cinema-goers.

The actor plays Mr. Fantastic in the summer blockbuster, and found the character's lycra outfit a little too revealing. He explains, "I started out wearing a codpiece under the suit. "Then memos started arriving from the studio that we needed to make it smaller and smaller until I was like Action Man." It seems likely co-star Chris Evans underwent the same procedure too. You can judge the results on the pair yourself here and here.
