"Robocop," "Pixels" Delayed Until 2014

Sony Pictures has shuffled around its 2013 and 2014 film schedule with one decidedly drastic shift taking place according to EW.

Jose Padilha's "Robocop" remake, which began shooting a few weeks ago, has been pushed back a full six months. Instead of an August 9th 2013 release, the movie is now slated for a February 7th 2014 release.

The move will give the effects-heavy feature more post-production time, and the studio more time to strategise a marketing campaign, but neither have been stated as the reason for the move.

With that now in 2014, the studio has also pushed back Neill Blomkampā€™s ambitious sci-fi thriller by five months from March 1st 2013 into the old "Robocop" slot on August 9th 2013.

The move puts the film in the midst of the Summer frenzy, not to mention it's pretty much the same weekend Blomkamp had great success in with "District 9" back in 2009.

Other moves on their slate include the announcement of a September 27th 2013 release for its "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" sequel, while their adaptation of the short film "Pixels" has been pulled off the 2014 schedule and has yet to set a new date.
