Paramount Takes One Shot & Wins

Paramount Pictures has picked up the option on the Lee Child-penned "One Shot," the latest in a series of mystery novels involving a gruff ex-military homicide investigator named Jack Reach reports Reuters.

The studio and producers Cruise/Wagner are hoping to use earlier titles in Child's nine-book series as well and launch a franchise similar to their Alex Cross series which starred Morgan Freeman as the famed cop-like forensic investigator of James Patterson's novels.

In "One Shot," Reach seeks the truth behind what seems an open-and-shut murder case after a trained military sniper is arrested for shooting five random victims. One of the books in the series, "Killing Floor" had been setup at New Line with a script by John Rogers and Clark Johnson attached to direct, but the studio allowed the option to lapse.

Thanks to 'Cary'.
