It comes as no surprise that in its first week of release on disc, "Marvel's The Avengers" has topped the U.S. home video charts according to HMM.
While actual revenue or number of copies sold figures haven't been released, it has been confirmed that Joss Whedon's superhero team-up took in more than 34 times the total of the No. 2 film on the chart - Warner's DTV animated feature "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns — Part 1".
The most surprising figure though is the degree of Blu-ray penetration. Approximately 72% of all "The Avengers" disc sales were on Blu-ray - a record high for a new theatrical release that has both DVD & Blu-ray formats equally available.
Also impressive is that 23% of total "The Avengers" sales were for the four-disc 3D Blu-ray combo pack.
