Director's Chair: Phifer, McKinnon, Reyes

"Mekhi Phifer ("ER") will make his directorial debut on the indie comedy pic "Easier, Softer Way," which has just been acquired by Sony. Pic -- being produced by Phifer for the Facilitator Films banner -- follows two hapless pot heads involved in a scheme to rip off a mysterious character called Mr. Big after the duo sours on rehab. Phifer is set to star, along with Maura Tierney, Scott Grimes, John C. McGinley, Ronnie Warner, Terry Crews and Mo Collins. Pic, penned by Warner, is skedded to lense in Los Angeles in July..." "Ray McKinnon, who helmed the Billy Bob Thornton starrer "Chrystal," will next write and helm the indie feature "Randy and the Mob" for newly launched Capricorn Pictures. "Mob," starring McKinnon, Lisa Blount and Walton Goggins, centers on a good ol' boy (McKinnon) who lands in hot water with some low-life mobsters, and then must seek help from his estranged, identical twin brother who is gay..." "Franc Reyes has been hired to write and direct the remake of "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" for Regency Enterprises. The original film was one of the last English-language films from writer-director Fritz Lang. The story centers on a newsman who intentionally frames himself for a murder he didn't commit in order to point out the dangers of circumstantial evidence and to expose an overzealous district attorney who has manipulated evidence in the past to gain convictions.
