Sony Pictures has acquired film rights to Olen Steinhauer's book series revolving around the burned-out spy character Milo Weaver, and have attached Doug Liman to direct says Deadline.

Weaver is an over the hill operative for a clandestine U.S. intelligence agency. When he finally achieves a modicum of happiness, an investigation into the death of a hired killer he’d been hunting threatens to ruin everything.

Three books in the series have been published thus far - "The Tourist," "Nearest Exit" and "An American Spy". "Covert Affairs" creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord are adapting the script while Liman and Dave Bartis will produce.

Liman's next project is the Tom Cruise-led "All You Need Is Kill".
