Producer Shawn Ryan ("The Last Resort") and Eddie Murphy are shopping around a TV series version of the "Beverly Hills Cop" film franchise to be produced by Sony Pictures Television says The Live Feed.
What's interesting here is that the series is not a remake or reboot but a straight up sequel which follows detective Axel Foley's son and is being described as an hourlong crime procedural with comedic elements.
Murphy, who starred in the three films as Axel, is attached to reprise his role in a recurring capacity including the pilot and several first season episodes. According to the actor, the series now has Axel as the chief of police in Detroit.
Murphy and Ryan would executive produce the project. The series is happening in lieu of a fourth film in the franchise which Murphy confirmed wouldn't be happening late last year.
