Michael R. Roskam ("Bullhead") will make his Hollywood directing debut on "The Tiger" at Focus Features and Random House Productions says Deadline.
Based on the novel by John Vaillant, the fact-based story is set around a remote village in Siberia where a man-eating tiger is deliberately attacking the inhabitants.
The main lead is an animal activist and researcher who leads a team tracking their cunning, injured, and starving nemesis. Guillermo Arriaga ("Babel") adapted the script.
The project was originally setup with Darren Aronofsky directing but he opted out to tackle "Noah" instead. He remains onboard as producer alongside Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Mark Heyman and Ari Handel.
Roskam is also developing the HBO pilot "Buda Bridge" which is set in Brussels in the near future.
