John Woo is going back to China to shoot an untitled contemporary neo-noir thriller for Bristol Bay Prods. Both filmed and set in Beijing, the project will also be produced in association with StudioCanal and Woo's own Lion Rock Prods says Reuters.
The story will center on a visiting American inadvertently caught in a struggle between government officials and the secret underworld fueling China's new economy. This allows Woo to explore the issue of the ever increasing clash between communism and capitalism thinking as China heads towards becoming the world's next superpower.
Woo's career as a filmmaker began in Hong Kong, where he directed over two dozen films like The Killer" & "Hard-Boiled" before making a mildly successful run in the US with "Face/Off" and "M:I-2". Woo's last two films "Paycheck" and "Windtalkers" sank at the box-office.
Thanks to 'Chang'.
