Constantin Film has acquired the film rights to "Hellboy" creator Mike Mignola's latest work "Joe Golem And The Drowning City" reports Deadline.
Mignola and Christopher Golden co-authored the supernatural-steampunk graphic novel which takes place in an alternate New York. In this universe, an earthquake in 1925 sunk lower Manhattan into the water - turning streets into canals.
Decades on, the 1970's to be precise, an orphaned teenage girl, an aging magician, a lunatic scientist, a Victorian occult detective, and a stalwart sidekick named Joe Golem who experience strange dreams, all come together to fight for the fate of the partly sunken city.
Alex Proyas is set to adapt and direct the live action feature to be shot in his native Australia. Proyas, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Eric Robinson and Peter Donaldson are producing.
