History Boys Taught Big Screen Lesson

Fox Searchlight said Thursday that it has joined efforts with British-based DNA Films and the BBC to bring the National Theatre's production of the award-winning play "The History Boys" to the big screen says The Hollywood Reporter.

DNA and the BBC will finance the production, with Fox Searchlight handling distribution. The same talent that won the play three Olivier Awards in January will contribute to the film version. Nicholas Hytner will direct from a script adapted for the screen by the original playwright Alan Bennett.

The story centers on an unruly bunch of bright, funny sixth-form boys in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. Also a maverick English teacher at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher, and a headmaster obsessed with results and a history teacher who thinks he's a fool.
