Vincent Cassel is said to be in negotiations to join Viggo Mortensen in reprising their roles in the sequel to David Cronenberg's 2007 gangster drama "Eastern Promises" reports Vulture.
Steven Knight ("Dirty Pretty Things") helms the follow-up which picks up where the first film left off.
Cassel's incompetent Kirill and his henchman driver Nikolai (Mortensen) have seemingly inherited the underworld throne from his crime-lord father. Kirill remains unaware though that Nikolai is actually a clandestine agent working undercover in Russia's federal security service.
Mortensen will reportedly first star in Hossein Amini's adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Two Faces of January" this fall before doing the 'Promises' sequel early next year.
