Anderson on His Stargate Departure

By Garth Franklin Monday June 6th 2005 03:53AM

Now Playing Magazine recently caught up with Richard Dean Anderson, former star of the Sci-Fi Channel's popular "Stargate SG-1" series, and he explained the reasoning behind his decision to step away from his role as Gen. Jack O'Neill for the series' upcoming ninth season:

"The situation I put to myself, my immediate future that is, employment-wise, is that I don't want to leave Los Angeles for a while. I'd rather not do a series that would keep me end-to-end five days a week. Part of my situation [with] MGM in the latter years was to create a schedule that allowed me to spend more time down here in Los Angeles. It's gotten to the point where I can't even do what I need to do to accommodate my daughter now. I've had some offers to do some things that would shoot here."

He will appear briefly this season however: "I've done a couple of scenes for Stargate to help launch the ninth season and help make it clear that O'Neill is still alive and that we may see him again somewhere down the line," says Anderson. "May see him... May... May not... But may... But may not."

Thanks to 'Corrinth'.
