"Eastbound and Down" co-creator and "Observe and Report" director Jody Hill is set to write and is attached to helm an untitled action project set in the American South for Warner Bros. Pictures says Heat Vision.
The story is set in the 1970's American South and involves an outlaw duo, with Hill aiming to make an action film in the mold of "The Getaway" and "Straw Dogs" director Sam Peckinpah.
What's surprising here is that the studio is also seriously considering this as a potential reboot of "The Dukes of Hazzard" franchise, the early 80's TV series which already scored a film adaptation in 2005 starring Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville (along with a direct-to-video follow-up starring Jonathan Bennett).
A decision won't be made about whether to call this a 'Hazzard' reboot until Hill is finished writing. Making things more likely to swing that way is that Billy Gerber is attached to produce, the same man who produced the 2005 'Dukes' film.
