Wes Bentley ("The Hunger Games"), Michael Cudlitz ("Southland"), Jacob Vargas ("Traffic"), Yancey Arias ("Legion") and Mark Moses ("The Killing") have all joined the cast of Diego Luna's indie drama biopic "Chavez" reports Variety.

Keir Pearson's script follows Cesar E. Chavez (Michael Pena) who organised the largest nonviolent protest in U.S. history to obtain basic human rights for over 50,000 farm workers in California.

Bentley will play fearless attorney Jerry Cohen, Cudlitz will play a sheriff who lets his personal opinions cloud his judgment, Vargas will play Cesar's older brother, Arias will play the United Farm Workers Union secretary-treasurer Gilbert Padilla, Moses will play seasoned organizer Fred Ross who mentors Chavez.

America Ferrera and Rosario Dawson also star as Chavez's wife and top aide respectively. Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal, Pablo Cruz, John Malkovich, Lianne Halfon, Russell Smith and Larry Meli will produce. Shooting began this week in Mexico.
