The Bell Tolls For DiCaprio

By Garth Franklin Friday May 27th 2005 11:36PM

Post "Titanic" Leonardo DiCaprio has been averaging about one film a year, but now he's attached to an assortment of projects albeit all with similar bents. He's currently shooting the undercover thriller "The Departed" with Martin Scorsese, and this week it was announced he was tied to an adaptation of the Robert Ludlum thriller "The Chancellor Manuscript."

Now, RTE reports that he is in talks to star in a new film version of Ernest Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls." It seems that DiCaprio wants to play the lead role of Robert Jordan in the film, but will not commit to the project without a director, and none is currently attached.

"25th Hour" writer David Benioff is penning the script for the film. 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' was also made into a film in 1944, starring Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman.

Thanks to 'Penelope'.
