Acquisitions: Hannibal, Hidden, Amusement

The still untitled Weinstein Brothers company will kick off with its first title, the Clive Owen thriller "Derailed" in October. They've also snapped up three pics from producer Dino de Laurentiis - "The Decameron" stars Hayden Christensen and Mischa Barton as Italian nobles during the time of the Florentine Plague; "Last Legion" stars Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley in this tale of a warrior who must protect the young Caesar when ancient Rome falls to the Goths; and "Young Hannibal," which explores the formative years of the serial killer Hannibal Lecter..." Sony Pictures Classics scored the hit of the Competition, "Cache" (Hidden), which is tagged to win the Palme d'Or, over some dozen other bidders, including Fox Searchlight. Michael Haneke's psychological suspense film stars Daniel Auteuil and Juliette Binoche as a couple harassed by mysterious videotapes. Les Films du Losange's Margaret Menegoz sold the film to SPC because of their long relationship, she said..." (full details)

New Line has bought Jake Wade Wall's "Amusement," purchasing the horror spec preemptively and setting it up with producers Mike Macari and Neal Edelstein. Wall's script centers on a traumatized woman who's questioned by a cop and a psychiatrist about three stories -- involving a clown, a hotel and a convoy -- that involve her and two of her female friends from childhood. Wall is also penning the remake of "When a Stranger Calls" for Sony's Screen Gems..." (full details)
