With the final six episodes of TNT's megahit "The Closer" to air this Summer, many have been wondering which cast members will be making the jump to the new spin-off series "Major Crimes" led by Mary McDonnell's Captain Sharon Raydor character. Turns out two regulars, along with Kyra Sedgwick's lead character, won't be staying on.
G.W. Bailey (Provenza), Tony Denison (Flynn), Michael Paul Chan (Tao), Raymond Cruz (Sanchez) and Phillip P. Keene (Buzz) are all returning as regular cast members. Jon Tenney (Fritz) and Robert Gossett (Commander Taylor) will be recurring. The two that are out are Corey Reynolds (Gabriel) and J.K. Simmons (Chief Pope).
New characters will include a new undercover detective to replace Gabriel and some district attorneys and FBI agents. Also Commander Taylor is getting a promotion (sounds like he'll become the new Chief).
The show runners say the new series will not be about getting a confession out of suspects so much as getting a deal. The financial realities of California's justice system will come heavily into play and the show itself will be much more an ensemble point-of-view than focusing specifically on one character.
